Avedis Foundation is deeply rooted in this part of Oklahoma.   A fascinating history has brought us to where we are today and moves us toward an exciting future.

Throughout Shawnee's history, health care has been a cornerstone to the community's vitality.  Avedis Foundation traces its history to a time when Pottawatomie County had two hospitals -- Mission Hill Memorial Hospital (opened in 1964) and Shawnee Regional Hospital (opened in 1967).

On January 1, 2002, Mission Hill Memorial Hospital and Shawnee Regional Hospital merged to form Community Health Partners, Inc., dba Unity Health Center, a nonprofit organization governed by a 15-member board.  For 10 years, Unity Health Center continued to provide high-quality health care to the growing community as a strong, viable hospital.

Building on our success and looking to the future of exceptional health care for our community, the Unity Health Center board of directors finalized an agreement with St. Anthony Network on June 30, 2012 to join one of the largest, faith-based healthcare systems in the United States, becoming  St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital.  Proceeds from the sale created one of Oklahoma's largest foundations, the Avedis Foundation.

The name "Avedis" was adopted for the new foundation because of its meaning as "one who brings glad tidings; the bearer of good news," intrinsic to the foundation's mission of improving the health, wellness and quality of life for the people of Pottawatomie County and its surrounding communities.

Avedis Foundation retained all board members of the Community Health Partners and began their new role on July 1, 2012 by investing in Pottawatomie County with a pledge of $35 million to help fund an expansion and renovation to the new St. Anthony Hospital.

Below, we've included some photographs that further illustrate the story of our past.  Soon, we look forward to adding many more that will tell the story of our community's future.
